Along the Tajikistan—Afghanistan border, Tajikistan

Description
2023. Digital photograph, Fujifilm X100V — I spent a couple months in Central Asia in 2023, traveling about a thousand miles along the Pamir Highway ( M41 ), the second highest international road in the world. The poverty and living conditions in this part of the world are unforgettable — some of the harshest I have ever seen, yet I also met some of the kindest, most welcoming people I've ever encountered traveling to over 50 countries across 4 continents. The vast majority of the villages along the Tajikistan—Afghanistan border are desolate, with only a few towns in between. During my second week, a Tajik friend took me to an amusement park set between two tiny villages by the Tajikistan—Afghanistan border. The contrast of this beautiful, newly built park in the middle of such a poverty-struck area was surreal — it really stuck with me. My Tajik friend was very proud of this park — it's exactly where this photo was taken, and you can now have a little piece of this surreal slice of the Pamirs on your wall. *** I’m offering 🎁 25% off all prints until December 25th! → Use the following discount code at checkout to claim your discount: MTSAFIRE25OFF 🎁 ***
